Fundraising Day

Change your journey, change your world day

Would you like your school to participate in a non-uniform day, bake sale or both?

You’ll have a great day raising money and including everyone.

Change Your Journey, Change Your World Day is a great way to involve all pupils in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel. We suggest holding it on Friday 24 March, however, if you can't take part on this day, you can choose another day during the challenge.

Active journeys- whether you are walking, scooting or wheeling- are an amazing way to keep healthy. They are good for the environment and can help change your world, and we think that deserves celebrating!

Hopefully your pupils have been taking part in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel at the same time as learning about these benefits of active travel, because we also want to celebrate their achievements.

You can choose to use Change Your Journey, Change Your World Day to fundraise for Sustrans. Over the years, thousands of children across the UK have either dressed up or held a bake sale during the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel challenge. Everyone has a great time learning how to change their journeys and their world, whilst raising funds for Sustrans and eating delicious cake.

1. Choose which event you would like to do

Choose to hold a bake sale, non-uniform day, or both at your school.

2. Tell parents

Download our letter home to parents.

2. Encourage the kids to wear/bake something of their choice

Non-uniform day:

  • Encourage everyone at your school to participate.
  • We want them to wear something of their own choice that they feel comfortable in (this could be their favourite hat or trainers, their favourite colour or even something that reminds them of their favourite sports team).
  • It’s their world - they are amazing and anything they choose goes.

Bake sale:

  • Encourage everyone at your school to participate.
  • We want them to bake their favourite thing and share this with everyone (this could be their favourite cookie with loads of chocolate chips, sausage rolls or even a triple layer sponge cake). How about a bikewell tart!
  • It’s their world - they can choose what they want to bake and sell to their peers (Although, make sure they are aware of any allergy restrictions at your school).

3. Additional activities

Announce your school’s winners

If you are running any competitions within your school (e.g. best individual effort, top class result) this is a good opportunity to announce winners.

4. Fundraise for Sustrans

Ask all pupils who choose to dress up/buy something from the bake sale to give £1, or if you do both, £1 for each. Collect and donate the money to Sustrans (details on how to donate below).

If you choose to fundraise on Change Your Journey, Change Your World Day, we’d like to say a big thank you!

Your donations will help us to continue running the Big Walk and Wheel and will help us to enable thousands of children to walk, use a wheelchair, scoot or cycle to school every day – making the school run safer and healthier. We’d like to see every child enjoying a healthier, happier and safer journey to school.

All donations generously given to Sustrans in response to this event will be treated as unrestricted funds and will therefore be directed to wherever the need is greatest within our charitable objectives.
